Three things Medical Assistants may not know about working at PacMed
Pacific Medical Centers (PacMed) in Washington, part of the Providence family of organizations, employs standout Medical Assistants (MAs) at nine outpatient clinics in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. Here are three things MAs may not know about working with us at PacMed.
1. We value all cultures and backgrounds.
Our strong team environment and respect for our people—at all levels and from all backgrounds—allow us to provide authentic care that achieves the highest-quality patient outcomes. Medical Assistant Kimberly says, “PacMed is a place that welcomes everybody, patients and caregivers alike.”
MA Alma agrees. “I’m Mexican and I have worked at locations where there was not that much diversity, and it’s hard to feel welcome when you don’t see yourself in other employees or patients. I feel welcome here.”
2. Our leaders and managers truly care what caregivers think.
Kimberly feels that everyone’s voice is heard and valued at PacMed. “They do surveys every year and they really react to what they find. They come back and say, ‘People are feeling this way. What can we do to help?’”
Kimberly says that’s invaluable to her because it’s important to have camaraderie with coworkers. She says, “I feel like if you’re going to spend eight hours with somebody every day, let’s do it with people you like and get along with. I look forward to coming to work every day, and I haven’t always been able to say that.”
3. Our MAs learn from and work with highly regarded professionals—and are encouraged to grow in their careers.
Our tight-knit teams feature many board-certified providers who’ve been included on the “Seattle’s Top Doctors” list for one or more years, as well as experienced nurses, leadership, and other caregivers who help us ensure world-class care for our communities. Kimberly agrees, “We have some really great doctors.”
Other ways MAs can grow in their careers beyond hands-on training with professionals in a wide range of specialties include taking advantage of offered scholarships, educational programs, money toward tuition and certification and more. See all benefits.
Kimberly says there are many opportunities, and you don’t need to stay on just one path. “We have all different kinds of positions beyond being an MA. Maybe you’d want to work the front desk. Maybe you’d want to work in x-ray. Maybe you’d want to work for a specialty provider and move from clinic to clinic, so you can work in more than one location.”
Adds Kimberly, “I can think of three Medical Assistants I’ve worked with who’ve gone on to advance into other things. One went to do the Epic side of stuff and is working behind the scenes. One became a supervisor. And one is actually our manager now. So, there’s definitely plenty of opportunity to grow.”
