Discover jaw-dropping sunsets and a commitment to service in Hobbs, New Mexico
Located in sunny southeast New Mexico near the Texas border, Hobbs blends southwestern hospitality with wide open spaces and a strong sense of community. Known for its vibrant sunsets, friendliness and growing amenities, Hobbs offers a high quality of life in a town where neighbors know your name. At the heart of it all is Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital, a part of the Providence family of organizations. With a rich blend of cultures, Hobbs is the perfect backdrop for both professional and personal growth.
A small town with a big heart
Whether you’re new to the area or have deep roots here, there’s a strong sense of belonging and caring for your neighbors in Hobbs. Veronica, a Registered Nurse and lifelong Hobbs resident, shares that her team does a lot of community service off the clock. “There are so many situations where we can go out there and serve,” she says. “For people that have disabilities but don’t have the funds or means to get a ramp, we go out there and we build one for them.”
Veronica says the team also helps with The Weekend Hunger Initiative (WHI), which is a nonprofit organization that delivers bags of food to students who are food insecure. “We show the community that we as Covenant care about our hometown, we care about our people, and we’re there for them.”
Despite its growth, with around 5,000 new residents since 2020, Hobbs continues to maintain a close-knit spirit. Veronica notes, “We still have that hometown feel. I love that the hospital supports Hobbs so much. It really feels like we’re taking care of our own.”
Endless skies, outdoor adventures
With more than 280 days of sunshine each year, Hobbs makes it easy to enjoy the outdoors. From hiking and biking trails to nearby state parks and the stunning Mescalero Sand Dunes, there’s something for every outdoor enthusiast. “I think staying active and staying out there, getting that breath of fresh air is super important, especially for the job that we do,” says Lab Technician Yvette.
If golf is your game, you’re in luck. Hobbs is home to Rockwind Community Links, a nationally recognized public golf course. The award-winning facility includes a championship 18-hole course, a 9-hole par-3 course, a dual ended practice range and multiple short game areas for practice and learning. Terrence, a Radiology Technician who moved to Hobbs from the Pacific Northwest, loves the warm weather and clear skies. Whether he is taking in the sunset on his evening walks, or playing a round of golf, he says, “Just having sunshine every day, that’s where it’s at.”
Staying active and connected in Hobbs
In Hobbs, staying active and connected comes naturally. Whether it’s joining a local sports league, taking part in city events at the Center for the Arts, or cheering on the local high school football team under the Friday night lights, there’s always something happening.
Many Covenant Health employees enjoy the CORE, a large, multi-generational recreation facility offering a wide range of indoor amenities. “The CORE is across the street, which is amazing. There’s so much to do for young adults, teens, any age,” shares Veronica.
“I think that it’s great when you have several different ways to blow off steam, whether it be with your children or with your friends. It’s definitely a great addition to Hobbs,” adds Yvette.
Commute? What commute?
One of the best perks of small-town living is how quickly you can get where you’re going. In Hobbs, traffic is rarely a concern, and commutes are short and sweet.
“I love my commute,” says Terrence.
Laboratory Scientist Samara agrees. “Everywhere you go, you’re going to be 10 or 15 minutes away,” she says. “It’s not like the city where you have to drive an hour away.”
This kind of convenience means more time for family, hobbies or simply relaxing at home. It’s one of the many ways Hobbs supports a balanced and stress-free lifestyle.
