Finding belonging and balance at PacMed
With nine clinics and more than 175 primary and specialty care providers, Pacific Medical Centers (PacMed) outpatient services span King, Snohomish and Pierce counties in Washington. PacMed is a place where you can build a meaningful clinical career without sacrificing your life outside work. And that’s exactly what attracted RN Kris, who works in our Bothell clinic.
Finding the right fit in primary care
For Kris, joining PacMed felt like finding the right pace of life. After working in both hospitals and other large organizations, she was drawn to the balance and community of clinic care. “I’ve known for a really long time that I wanted to work in the clinic,” Kris says. “This is more the pace that I’m looking for. It’s good for work-life balance and family life, and the community here is very, very good.”

At PacMed, nurses care for patients during the day—no nights, no weekends. That leaves time to recharge while still making a meaningful impact. “You can still take a big part in patient care,” Kris explains. “You can still make a really good impact on someone’s life.”
Feeling welcomed from day one
When Kris joined PacMed, she immediately noticed something different during orientation. “Everyone was really warm and inviting. I also noticed they prioritized the BIPOC community both on an employee level as well as a patient level. And that’s how I knew this place was different and that I wanted to stay.”
That sense of belonging carries through to her daily work. “Being BIPOC, I can freely be myself here. I speak Tagalog and I’ve actually found that’s been really helpful here, bridging the gap of communication and patient care if patients need that from me.”
PacMed fosters an environment where every caregiver can show up as their authentic self. Katie, a clinic supervisor, shares, “When I came here and saw the leadership team, they looked a lot like me or came from similar backgrounds. In that regard, I felt very welcomed and like I had a place here.”
Purpose in teamwork
Kris says she and her team collaborate closely day to day, making sure patients get the best care possible. “We’re pretty open about communication. When we all sit in our pod together, we can talk directly about patient care,” Kris says. “If the MAs are short-staffed, I’ll jump in and help room patients. Anywhere I see a gap I can fill within my scope, I’ll hop in.” This spirit of pitching in, she says, makes the clinic feel like “a level up” compared to other places she’s worked, with experienced colleagues who are always willing to share their knowledge.
Her team shows they care for each other on a personal level, as well. When Kris had a sudden health scare at work with a newly diagnosed heart condition, her coworkers immediately jumped in. “They really, really care. It was a big deal for me.”
A culture of growth

Kris says she sees many opportunities for growth at PacMed. She enrolled in a Providence-supported Spanish medical terminology course and is considering advancing to her BSN with tuition assistance. “PacMed will cover a lot of it,” she says. “That’s percolating in the back of my mind as I continue.”
Clinic leaders also emphasize the support PacMed provides for caregivers to pursue whatever career path they like. Maria, a longtime supervisor, says, “Whether it’s a bachelor’s or certificate or even a master’s, PacMed has tuition reimbursement through Guild. PacMed is a place where you can grow, you can cultivate and learning and find what you are looking for in your own path.”
Katie adds that the support is not just financial for her. “With the tuition assistance, and working full-time, but having that support, like small schedule tweaks here and there has been very, very helpful.”
Why PacMed stands out
For Kris, PacMed is a place she sees herself staying long term. “There is a lot of above and beyond here. People seem to care not just in a professional sense, but they seem to care deep down about the wellbeing of those around them. And it shows in the really good retention rate.”
When asked what she’d tell a friend considering applying, she doesn’t hesitate. “Come here, come now. My only regret is that I didn’t find this place sooner.” With growth opportunities and supportive teams that go above and beyond, PacMed is a place to build a lasting career. Explore our open roles >
