Four ways our caregivers in Texas are like family
Covenant Health, part of the Providence health system, serves West Texas and eastern New Mexico with caregivers delivering on our mission to care for all—including their own coworkers, who they say feel like family. If you’re interested in joining us, read why several of our caregivers in Lubbock, Texas, think Covenant is the best.
Reason 1: Covenant caregivers bring positivity to work.
Housekeeper Anastasia followed in her dad’s footsteps and took a job at Covenant; she works on the environmental services team. Anastasia says her father sold her on the opportunity by promising a friendly environment—and she’s found that to be true. “What makes me want to stay with Covenant is just the great vibes,” says Anastasia. “I’ve never had a job where people are so positive, smiling at you, telling you, ‘Hi, good morning, good evening. How are you today?’ It’s pretty great.”
Reason 2: Covenant caregivers help each other out.
Nurse Manager Jordan has worked at Covenant for seven years and says, “When I think of my team, I just can’t help but smile. We are a big family. We’re there for each other on the good and the bad days. We really lean on each other to be a support system and that helps us provide the best care that we can to our patients.”
Registered Nurse Stetson agrees, saying, “The reason I plan on staying with Covenant probably until I retire is I really just love the community—from the support that I get from my leaders up at the director and CNO level to the support from my peers. I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.”
Reason 3: Covenant caregivers want to see each other succeed.
Lead Surgical Tech Karina initially wanted to apply at Covenant after she saw how helpful and hands-on they were during her clinical rotations in school. “They have career ladders for specialties, for nurses, for scrub techs,” says Karina. “Whatever the role, they do help you along the way.” Karina’s now been part of the family for eight years and was recently promoted to Lead with the help of her manager’s mentorship and coworkers’ support. And she’s helping the next generation of techs succeed, too, by recruiting and training new surgical techs. Karina says she does her best to foster the family-like atmosphere that she appreciates so much herself. “They really do look out for you. They have your best interest at heart.”
Reason 4: They support each other’s backgrounds and perspectives.
Physician Assistant Sixtus says he was the only Cameroonian in Lubbock when he moved to the area more than twenty years ago. Not knowing anyone, he took a job as a transporter at Covenant, and he was given opportunity after opportunity to advance into his current role. Sixtus says he’s always felt welcomed and supported—both at Covenant and in the larger community. So, he decided to help others experience what he did.
“I’ve been able to help 65 families migrate to Lubbock and become gainfully employed at Covenant,” says Sixtus, adding that those families are happy and successful after making the move. “The people in Lubbock are wonderful and warm. There’s a vibrant community, lots of things to do, and it’s a great place to raise a family.”
And at Covenant, all caregivers are supported by best-in-class benefits and an atmosphere that feels like an extension of their own family at home. Says Sixtus, “Regardless of your background, regardless of your race, the organization is working to make sure that you have the opportunities that you need to grow.”
