Purpose, community, excellence, growth: Why you’ll love working with us in California
There’s nowhere quite like California.
With towering Redwoods, picturesque wine country, high-desert sunsets, world-famous beaches, quaint neighborhoods and bustling epicenters of industry, the Golden State truly offers something for everyone. Not only is it a great place to visit, but it’s also a great place to live and work. Here’s why you should consider joining our team in California.
You can do your greatest good.
Our founders, the Sisters of Providence and Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, brought education and health care to the state in the 1800s, and our care centers honor them today by continuing to live our Mission of serving the poor and vulnerable across the communities we call home. So, joining our team in California means becoming a part of a health system that has a long history of ensuring that caregivers can do their greatest good.
Surgical Support Tech Steven, who works with us in Torrance, explains, “I naturally love to help people, so with the core values that we uphold at Providence, it gives me the freedom and opportunity to meet the needs of people, whether it be a patient or a fellow coworker.”
Doing the greatest good means caring inside and outside of our facilities. At Providence Saint John’s in Santa Monica, caregivers come together each year to collect backpacks, school supplies and essential items for children supported by our Child and Family Development Center, an organization that has supported thousands of families through mental health challenges, addiction recovery and trauma healing.
We also have active chapters of our Caregiver Resource Groups in California that enable caregivers with similar backgrounds and perspectives to connect and support initiatives that matter to them and the patient populations they serve.
You can find your squad.
With more than 39.4 million residents, California is the most populous state in America. But no matter where they live, in a major metro or smaller locale, Providence caregivers say they’ve found a tight-knit community at work
Jenil, Nurse Manager for Maternal and Child Health in Mission Hills, says she had an easier transition from North Carolina to Southern California because of her coworkers. “They became part of my family,” she shares. “They made sure I didn’t feel alone during the holidays.”
Apple Valley Business Data Analyst Vanessa had a similar experience. “Since my first day here almost 20 years ago, Providence has made me feel like this is where I belong.”
Susana, a Clinical Education Specialist in Burbank, says her coworkers cared for her family as if they were their own. “My father came in as a patient. All the ED staff who were at his bedside were people I have oriented or helped train and educate in some way. They are my people. They knew just what to do, they did it quickly and effectively, and they saved my dad.”
You can add “award-winning employer” to your resume.

You can accelerate your career.
Professional development is a top priority at Providence. We offer numerous ways to grow in your career—and caregivers across California are taking full advantage of these opportunities.
Elizabeth, Patient Experience Specialist in Torrance, says, “I initially began as Per Diem as a Patient Experience Coordinator and was promoted to Patient Experience Specialist. During my time here, I have taken full advantage of Guild, the tuition reimbursement program. I obtained my master’s in healthcare administration. Prior to enrolling in the program, I was hesitant, but with the support of my family and my director, I signed up.”
Lauren, an RN in Mission Hills, worked her way from an emergency medical technician (EMT) to an Emergency Department RN, and now works to train new nurses.
Maureen relocated from Southern California to Northern California and is growing her imaging career at Providence in Eureka. She is invigorated by the opportunity to work with new tools and technologies, with the enduring support of her managers and teammates. She shares, “I’m excited to be in an environment that allows me to develop a variety of echocardiography skills, including outpatient, inpatient, stress echoes, TEE and pediatric echocardiography. My managers care about me as a person, not just the technical skills I bring. They seek my feedback and value my fresh perspective. They check in on how I’m adjusting to the move, and every caregiver I’ve spoken with has made a point to make me feel truly welcome. I feel seen and heard.”
