Pursue your passion in radiology in picturesque Hood River
You may have heard of Hood River, Oregon, as the windsurfing capital of the U.S., but this tight-knit community also offers a place to serve others as you grow in your imaging career. Radiology Technologist Tanya has worked with us at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital for over a decade—and in that time, she’s had an incredible career trajectory while finding purpose in the Providence Mission to serve all, both in and outside of work.
Providence support to expand radiology modalities
At Providence, radiology caregivers can select the career path that suits them best, with guidance and support throughout the process. We provide cross-training opportunities for medical imaging professionals who want to start in one modality and expand to another. Tanya experienced this firsthand.
“When I first started here, I just did CT and X-ray,” she shares. “My passion and goal was to do MRI. Providence allowed me to do that. I worked on the weekends full-time and went to school.”
Tanya says the Providence Education Benefit Program with Guild helped pay for her schooling. The program offers certificate and degree options, including a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Services.
Tanya says she still feels she has plenty of room to further advance in her career. “Every year our leader sits down with us and asks, how can I help you grow?”
A radiology career with purpose
For Tanya, choosing Providence was an easy decision. “I believe in the values of Providence, in what they provide for the community, and in what they give to us as caregivers.”
Tanya embodies the Providence Mission to “Know me, care for me, ease my way” at work every day. She and her fellow caregivers, from ER doctors and nurses in the ICU to the team in the Family Birth Center collaborate seamlessly—and all know each other by name. “I’ve worked at a hospital that had 400 beds, and I’ve worked on the opposite end at a hospital that only had five beds in their ER. With 25 beds, this is a perfect setting for me.”
Tanya and her team live the Mission outside the hospital walls, as well. “We always are getting emails about opportunities to volunteer,” she says. Whether it’s working with assisted living patients or helping with the Special Olympics, Tanya appreciates the many opportunities to serve. “I live in this community, and I feel it’s important to give back.”
Providence serves its caregivers
Tanya feels that as she cares for patients, she’s cared for by Providence, as well. “One of the biggest things is the financial support,” she explains. “We’re able to access financial advisors 24/7. It has given me an opportunity to figure out my retirement goals.” She says there are also discounts on gym memberships, clothing and other local services that help her save money and support her family.
The organization also prioritizes caregiver well-being. Tanya says, “Providence offers us an opportunity, anytime we want to, to see a therapist.” She says that having that kind of support makes a big difference in her life on and off the clock.
