We spoke recently with Clinic Medical Assistant (MA) Britani who shares the many ways she’s been supported on her career journey so far.

You belong here, right from the start

You can’t grow in a career if you don’t feel like you belong, and Britani, who puts her knowledge and caring approach to good use at our Providence Mill Creek Pediatrics Clinic, says Providence welcomes caregivers even before they begin working with us.

“One thing that struck me as I explored new positions was that everyone was friendly and welcoming at Providence. It felt like the right fit,” Britani shares. And that friendliness continued once she signed on and got to know her team. “This clinic is a happy, friendly and loving environment. Everybody comes to work and has a smile on their face. Everyone is warm and down to earth. It’s a place where you can work, play, do good and be happy.”

Day-to-day career support

This positive rapport makes for great teamwork—and lays the foundation for career growth. Britani highlights how this team spirit helps her excel in her role. She says she never felt she couldn’t ask questions or that people weren’t willing to help her—so she was able to get up to speed very quickly and take on more responsibilities. She says, “This clinic, compared to the other places that I’ve worked, has a lot of teamwork involved. Everyone is willing to jump in and do things to help lighten the workload. We all work together as a team and support each other.”

Each day, Britani’s approachable and solutions-focused manager sets high standards for excellent care and productive shifts. She is an advocate for their team. “My manager makes us feel very appreciated and we’re very much part of a family,” Britani said. “She’s always there if we need her.”

Britani says her manager pushes the team to do their best work on the clock and ensures work-life balance is respected, so caregivers have time to recharge and avoid burnout. “This role provides an excellent work-life balance. My manager is very flexible with PTO and I rarely have to come in on my days off.”

Realizing your career ambitions for the future

Providence asks all caregivers, no matter their role, “Where do you want to grow?” In Britani’s case, she hopes to move from her MA role into a nursing role, so she plans to take advantage of the Providence learning and education benefits—including the Education Benefit Program with Guild.

Britani plans to use the Providence tuition benefit to work toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Like all eligible caregivers, she’ll have access to 1:1 support from Guild education specialists who help with program selection and application submission. Britani also uses our internal Degreed learning platform, home to our virtual Career Center that helps caregivers assess their skills and interests, explore career options and develop a path toward achieving their ideal job.
