Three reasons nurses choose Providence
Now more than ever, it’s critical to find the right nursing role at the right organization to effectively deliver your unique brand of care. We may be biased, but we think nursing at the Providence family of organizations is the best. Here are three big reasons to consider applying to join our team.
Reason 1: Providence prioritizes avoiding nurse burnout
Nursing is mentally, physically and emotionally taxing, so making our nurses’ lives easier is an ongoing focus. In addition to supporting legislation requiring staffing plans so nurses aren’t stretched thin, we ease the burden by offering:
- Competitive pay, with the potential for high future earnings.
- Always-on, free mental wellness resources through Lyra, which gives nurses and their family members up to 25 counseling or coaching sessions per year, in person or online, as well as a host of other mental health and wellbeing resources.
- Code Lilac, personal, real-time intervention after a challenging experience.
- Respite Rooms where nurses can rest and recharge in a calming space while on shift.
- Pioneering AI-based technology that helps caregivers streamline the flow of electronic messages received, enabling them to focus on the most urgent messages first.
We also support nurses by fostering a culture where teams have each other’s backs and managers put people first. Says Providence Swedish Chief Nursing Officer Michelle, “This work takes your brain, it takes your heart, it takes your personality. And, if you’re doing it right, you’re exhausted. And so in my role, I get to be the nurse to the nurses, and that’s pretty cool.”
ER RN Jared feels the support from his managers and supervisors. “They will come in on night shift and say, ‘Hey can we help?’ The simple fact of showing up and saying, I don’t have the answers but I’m here with you, is incredible. There’s no more clear way to show someone that you’ve got their back than to say, ‘I’m in the trenches with you. Let’s figure this out.’”
Reason 2: Innovation fuels nursing at Providence
The industry is changing so Providence is developing new models of care to further improve efficiencies for nurses and extend their career longevity. One example is the implementation of a hybrid nursing care model called “Co-Caring” that allows a virtual nurse to perform specific patient care duties, supporting the bedside nurses and care team through a bidirectional audio and video telehealth platform. This innovative care model enables nurses to practice at the top of their license and allows those who may not want (or be able) to work at the bedside to stay in the nursing field.
We also continuously strive to nurture research, innovation and clinical scholarships in nursing at Providence. This is done through the Providence Clinical Scholarship Framework and development programs for nurses at all levels who are interested in advancing their research expertise and skills.
Reason 3: Professional development for nurses is a key focus at Providence
We care so much about the success of our nurses that our commitment to professional development is in writing. Says Michelle, “It’s built right into their contract that nurses can get reimbursed for training, college or certification in your specialty.
Float Pool Charge RN Janie took advantage of the tuition reimbursement benefit while juggling work, parenting and school at the same time. “Providence has opened up doors for me. If I didn’t accept the role at Providence initially, my career wouldn’t have skyrocketed at the rate in which it did.”
Senior Nurse Manager Kristy had a similar path, saying, “I went from a secretary to an educator to a nursing supervisor to a nurse manager and now to a senior nurse manager. So, there is definitely room for growth.”
Our RN Residency/Fellowship Program provides nurses with everything they need to feel confident on the hospital floor. We offer a wide range of learning tracks with integrated classroom, simulation and clinical experiences under the guidance and support of preceptors.
From recently graduated BSNs to experienced RNs who are ready for a new specialty, we provide an integrated, consistent support structure for mentoring, career guidance and development, and new nurse onboarding—to ensure our nurses are reliably prepared, inspired and challenged in their work.
We offer comprehensive programs which include fundamentals, nurse mentoring, preceptor training and simulation for a wide variety of specialty roles.
