Limitless possibility and purpose: Work with us in the Southwest

May 19, 2025

The vastness of the Southwest’s Llano Estacado has been renowned for centuries, and this sense of boundlessness extends to our service area in southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. From the expansive landscapes to the welcoming, growing communities, and the rich heritage of the region, limitless truly describes what we offer. Here are several reasons to join Covenant Health.

You’ll enjoy the sunshine year-round.

Known for being a large oil-producing region, the Permian Basin, which overlaps with our care footprint, is a notable sun-producing region, too. When Radiology Tech Terrence and his wife relocated to Hobbs from Seattle in search of a sunnier place to live, they were delighted to discover that Hobbs gets about 266 days of glorious, golden rays per year (nearby Lubbock, Texas, averages a whopping 277 days!). Though he’d never lived anywhere but the Pacific Northwest, Terrence says that after experiencing the daily sunshine in New Mexico, “We’ve decided never to go back.”

For Terrence, this means at least 266 annual opportunities to golf—and there are plenty of places to tee off nearby. “The courses around here are amazing and a lot cheaper than in most parts of the country,” says Terrence. “It’s not that expensive to be a member somewhere.”

Other ways to enjoy the sun in our Covenant communities include picnicking or biking at one of the many neighborhood parks; hiking at one of the numerous state or national parks—Big Bend, Guadalupe Mountains, Big Bend Ranch, Seminole Canyon or Palo Duro Canyon; attending a farmer’s market in Lubbock; or even watching gliders soar overhead in the great big sky of Hobbs.

According to the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, the city is “the recognized world capital for soaring planes. The strong thermal updrafts from the surrounding desert create the perfect place for the graceful sport of soaring, which is practiced by powerless planes that are towed into the sky and then turned loose to make lazy, beautiful circles above the towns and fields of Lea County.”

You’ll be cared for, mind, body and spirit.

At Covenant, we are guided by our Mission to serve all as expressions of God’s healing love. And we’re committed to honoring all caregivers’ religious and faith traditions, including those who do not identify with any religion or spiritual practice.

The Covenant Mission is what draws many caregivers to pursue their calling with us. Says Jordan, a Pediatric Nurse Manager at Covenant Children’s in Lubbock, “I love that I can really be myself in all aspects in faith and in the care that I provide my patients and my employees.” She says the entire team strives to treat every person they encounter with the same loving care, easing their way. “I think that’s what really sets us apart from other hospitals.”

Down the road in Hobbs, RN Veronica agrees. “I truly feel that God put me where he needs me to be,” she says. “He has blessed me with this position. I’m excited to meet the people that He’s going to place in my path so that I can be there for them.”

Our growing communities offer a special place to raise a family.

From the wide-open vistas of New Mexico to the rolling plains of West Texas, our caregivers appreciate the space, safety and simplicity of raising children in the Southwest. The areas we serve offer excellent schools, access to outdoor adventures and tight-knit communities where kids are free to roam and grow.

Lab Technician Assistant Yvette, who was born and raised in Hobbs, says, “I love my city. I feel like it’s grown so much and is evolving in great ways.” She cites recent additions like the Center of Recreational Excellence (the CORE), where teens like her son can play soccer, football and more, and a recent addition to the high school to accommodate a growing student population. She says that even the hospital itself is a boon for the community. “I think Covenant has really given something different to Hobbs,” she shares. “The new build is truly beautiful. It’s welcoming. You walk around, everybody’s saying good morning, something that I think we need to get back to.”

The same is true in Texas. Jordan says, “It just truly feels like home. Everybody you encounter has that West Texan kindness and generosity that I truly believe you don’t get everywhere else.”

Not only did Physician Assistant (PA) Sixtus feel welcomed and ready to plant roots for his own family in Lubbock, but he also began helping other families migrate to West Texas from his home country, Cameroon. He says, “Since arriving in the US more than two decades ago, I have had several family members follow under my sponsorship.”

With our whole-family benefits, including mental health support, childcare assistance and flexible schedules, caregivers can balance their calling in health care with a fulfilling home life.

We celebrate culture, history and heritage.

Texas and New Mexico are steeped in rich, multicultural traditions, and working at Covenant means you’ll be part of a legacy that honors diversity.

One way we do that is through our Caregiver Resource Groups. Kristy, Senior Nurse Manager at Grace Surgical Hospital in Lubbock says, “I’m part of a group called Unidos for Hispanic caregivers. We meet monthly, and we celebrate our heritage. I love it because we get to learn about different cultures, and that’s kind of amazing.”

Patient Access Manager Jessica, who works at a clinic in Lubbock and is a member of our LGBTQIA+ group, says, “Not everyone in our group is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Many caregivers have family members in the community, and they want to learn how to create a safe space for them. A lot of sharing, learning and compassion happens during our meetings and our gatherings.”
