“We help each other out without asking, whether it’s answering a call light, getting each other’s patients up to the restroom or pulling medications,” she says. “We all work together as a team, and it shows in the level of care we provide.” 

That everyday support grew into a bond Erin describes as both collaborative and joyful—and even familial. She says, “We love being together as a team. I feel I’m part of a family at work and miss everyone when I have many days off in a row. We laugh and cry together…always with love and support of one another.”

Erin recalls one colleague who had a lasting impact on her practice.

“We had a nurse who was really educated on the use of the ‘peanut ball’ and different patient positions with them,” she says. “She would come into the room and help me position the patient so I could help the person deliver. I still use it in my practice today and always remember her.” That culture of shared learning helps nurses continually strengthen their skills and confidence.

The support also extends beyond peers. After helping care for a patient with multiple complications, Erin received recognition from her manager that reinforced her confidence as a clinician.

“I had a difficult patient with many complications, and my manager told me I did an excellent job and worked with autonomy,” she shares.

She can balance motherhood with the career she loves.

According to Erin, “Providence celebrates having a life outside of work as well as at work.” Self-scheduling gives her the flexibility to balance her role as an L&D nurse with life at home.

“They let us put our own schedule in, which allows us time for our real lives,” she says. “I have two boys ages 4 and 10, and they keep me busy. I also am an antique vendor.”
