How one caregiver in Texas found his second career in a health care clinic
Clinic Patient Services Specialist Luciano joined Covenant Health, part of the Providence family of organizations, 10 years ago when he was searching for a new career with longevity. Says Luciano, “With past jobs, there was a type of uneasiness to it. I needed a change. I knew the medical field was going be something that’s long-lasting, that I can grow into and retire from.” Luciano says he’s glad he made the change and started his career in health care. “I love this job.”
Path to Covenant
Luciano went to school and by the time he finished his internship, he was offered a job at a Covenant clinic in Lubbock, Texas—and he’s never looked back. He says he knows his coworkers like family and feels supported by leadership. “They take care of us,” he says. “They take an interest in what we’re doing outside of work. They know family’s always going to come first. They encourage you to take time off to spend time with your family.” Luciano appreciates that work-life balance as his favorite thing to do is spend time with his two daughters, preferably outside in the sunshine.
Career growth opportunities
Luciano says that everyone has access to growth opportunities. “There’s a lot of different areas to grow, from coding, to talking to the patients and checking them in for their appointments, to even going back to school and becoming a medical assistant or nurse practitioner. It’s just a matter of finding which way you want to go.”
Competitive benefits
One of the reasons Luciano loves working at his Covenant clinic and feels it’s a role with longevity is that he’s supported by “really good benefits” for him and his family. “My daughters are able to see whomever they need to see, mental health or physical health wise. There’s the health savings accounts, reimbursements accounts. I take advantage of it as best as I can.”
The right career choice
Ten years into his career in the medical field, Luciano says he still believes he made the right decision. He says, “It’s the best job that I’ve ever had. Other places are demanding—and I’m not saying the work here isn’t demanding, but to me, it’s demanding in a good way because you’re helping people.” Luciano says if his best friend was curious about applying for a job at his clinic or any Covenant Health location, he wouldn’t hesitate to encourage them to go for it. “Get online, see what they have open for your specific area and apply. I should have done it a long time ago. I didn’t—but I’m here now and I’m not going anywhere.”
