All in the family: one clinic RN’s path to pursue her true calling
RN Lauren has spent her entire nursing career as part of the Providence family. She gained a solid foundation for working as a nurse at a Providence Swedish hospital, caring for a wide variety of patients. When she discovered her preferred specialty, Lauren transitioned to a Pacific Medical Centers (PacMed) clinic. We spoke recently with Lauren about what it’s like working at PacMed clinics.
From the floor to a specialty clinic
After participating in the Providence Swedish RN Residency Program, Lauren worked on a medical-surgical floor for more than three years before taking a role at a PacMed clinic. Through that experience, she discovered a discovered a true passion for rheumatology and helping patients suffering from things like arthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatism or autoimmune disease such as lupus).
“I knew that I ultimately wanted to work in this specialty full time and came to PacMed for that opportunity,” Lauren says.
Thriving in a bustling environment
Nurses enjoy predictable schedules and often work close to home at PacMed clinics. But Lauren says her work environment is still dynamic and she likes that she and her teammates can depend on each other to pitch in, just like when she worked in the hospital setting. Says Lauren, “We all have our busy days and times when we need help. I like knowing that I can count on my coworkers to provide assistance when needed, as I would do the same for them. We can accomplish so much more for our patients when we work together.”
A familial atmosphere
We hear time and again from caregivers across the Providence system that their teams are like family—and Lauren feels the same at PacMed. “I always look forward to seeing my co-workers and starting each day with my team,” she says. “There is definitely a family-like feel at PacMed, not only among my direct co-workers, but with other staff, providers, and leadership as well. PacMed’s culture has allowed me to build relationships and collaborate with caregivers across multiple clinics and specialties.”
About her supervisors, Lauren adds that they “take the time to listen and are genuinely interested in my professional growth. I feel fortunate to be a part of their team.”
Teamwork and positivity
Lauren loves that her teammates and managers lead with positivity. “For anyone considering applying to PacMed, I would tell them that if they are looking for a collaborative, supportive and positive team to work with, where they have the opportunity to have a positive impact on patients’ lives each day, then PacMed is the perfect place for them!”
