Caregiver Stories
Why clinic supervisors choose Providence
Nearly a quarter of Providence caregivers work in clinic settings, and clinic supervisors play a vital role in keeping that care running smoothly. Their work goes far beyond scheduling and operations. They help build strong teams, support caregivers through challenges, and create an environment where patients feel welcomed and cared for.
We spoke with several clinic supervisors to understand what sets this work apart and why they’ve chosen to build long, meaningful careers here.
What it means to lead a clinic
Clinic supervisors are the connective tissue of a clinic. They handle staffing, manage patient escalations, improve workflows and help the people on their team grow.
“Every day looks a little different in the leadership role. It’s not set in stone,” says Louise, Supervisor of Clinic Operations at Swedish’s Neuroscience Institute, where she’s worked for three years.
It’s a role that requires adaptability, people skills and a real passion for healthcare. For those who are drawn to leadership, the rewards are significant.
Danelle, who has worked for the organization for 19 years and is now the Senior Manager of Clinic Operations at Swedish Heart and Vascular Institute, says, “I get to empower the people who are directly working with our patients to help improve their lives.”
Building relationships that last
When clinic supervisors talk about what makes providing care in clinics different from hospital settings, one theme comes up again and again: continuity. In a clinic setting, caregivers have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with the patients they serve and can help improve long-term health outcomes.
“They get to know you, you get to know them,” says Maria, Clinic Supervisor for Dermatology and Otolaryngology at PacMed, who has worked there for 22 years. “You get to see their families grow.”
Trisha, a Clinical Care Coordinator at Providence Medford who has been with Providence for more than 10 years, feels it too. “It’s nice when a patient says to a family member, ‘This is Trish, and this is what I was telling you about.’ You build relationships and bonds.”
For clinic supervisors, one of the most meaningful parts of the job is protecting that experience for their entire team. They ensure caregivers have the support, time and resources needed to build trust and show up fully for patients.
Where teamwork feels personal
Ask clinic leaders what they value most about their teams, and you’ll hear a common theme: people genuinely support one another. “Everybody from the MAs to the RNs to the doctors… They’re so wonderful,” says Trisha. “We all treat each other like family. It’s not ‘you’re down here and we’re up here.’ It’s casual and professional at the same time.”
Katie, Clinic Supervisor for Primary Care at PacMed’s Canyon Park location, agrees: “It really is a family feel here. Everyone is very approachable, and all the leadership really have a true connection.”
That sense of connection goes beyond camaraderie. At Providence clinics, team members step in for one another regardless of title or team assignment. Collaboration is part of the culture, creating an environment where people feel supported and no one works in isolation.
Leadership that has your back
Clinic supervisors consistently describe leaders who invest in their growth, listen during difficult moments and create space for honest conversations.
“We can go to our supervisor or our manager, address whatever concerns or stressors, and we don’t have to hold back,” says Trisha. “They’re very supportive.”
Katie’s manager adjusts her schedule around her full-time school commitments. And Louise says, “I always really valued the honesty of my manager. It kept me engaged and helped me feel like I was serving a greater purpose.”
The purpose that keeps you coming back
Even for clinic supervisors who are no longer providing direct patient care, the mission remains central to the work. Providence’s promise to “know me, care for me, ease my way” continues to guide everyday decisions.
For Trisha, that promise is deeply personal. She was first inspired to join Providence as a patient herself, and the experience stayed with her.
“Providence is a place where they make you feel like you’re wanted, you’re needed, you’re loved and cared for. That’s what made me want to be a part of it.”
For Louise, purpose shows up in the small improvements that make a meaningful difference. Whether it’s streamlining a workflow or resolving a referral issue, she sees how operational changes ultimately improve the patient experience.
“Seeing how that then affects the patient in the end, and knowing that’s what it’s all for,” she says. “Those are the best days.”
