A radiology manager’s career journey at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Montana
At Providence, we provide the support, professional opportunities and culture to help you succeed. Whether you’re just beginning your career journey or looking to move into leadership, a new modality or specialty, we empower our caregivers to shape their career paths.
We spoke with Radiology Manager Erin, who works with us at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, which locals affectionately call St. Pat’s, about how she advanced her radiology career at Providence and why she loves living and working with us in Montana.
A workplace that feels like family
For Erin, the decision to join Providence was an easy one. “I started out in an X-ray program through the university, and my clinicals were here,” she says. “I felt very welcome and appreciated, even as a student. It just felt like family.” When a job opened after graduation, she applied immediately and has been here ever since.
Seventeen years later, that family feeling remains strong. Erin says, “My team is compassionate and caring towards patients and each other, but they also have fun. I hear laughing all the time down the hall. Everyone gets along and even spends time together outside of work.”
Building a career in radiology at Providence
Erin says that Providence provides ample room for career advancement in radiology. “There are so many opportunities, from moving from an X-ray tech to learning a new modality like CT or mammography, to leadership roles, management and beyond.”
Tuition reimbursement plays a big role in supporting professional development and career advancement. At Providence, caregivers who want to obtain additional certificates or degrees can take advantage of the Providence Education Benefit Program with Guild, which was made for busy working caregivers, and offers a wide variety of certificate and degree programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Services.
“Providence makes the process easy, and really encourages people to expand their horizons,” Erin explains.
Competitive benefits and a culture of care
Providence’s commitment to its caregivers extends beyond the workplace. “Providence offers wonderful benefits that are competitive with other locations,” Erin notes. She says that beyond standout health insurance, 401(k) and other expected benefits, Providence goes beyond by ensuring its caregivers are mentally and physically well. Says Erin, “If you meet certain wellness measures, like tracking steps, you get money back into your account to help with your deductible. And of course, they cover all the preventative care in a very seamless way that makes it very, very affordable.”
A Mission to serve and a commitment to excellence
Erin loves that she and her team enjoy each other—and that they’re ultimately bound by a shared Mission to serve, as well as a commitment to world-class care.
Named a Northwestern Montana Best Regional Hospital in 12 Types of Care by U.S. News & World Report, Providence St. Patrick Hospital is home to some of the northern Rocky Mountain region’s most advanced health care. “Providence has a name for itself in this community,” Erin says. “People trust and know they’ll get good care when they come here.”
This commitment to excellence is a guiding light for Erin and her team as they work together to ease the way of those who need it most. Says Erin, “There’s a bigger purpose we have and that brings us together and keeps us grounded.”
Living and working in Missoula
Outside of work, Erin appreciates everything that Missoula has to offer, including the changing seasons and beautiful surroundings, with nearby rivers and mountains where she enjoys hiking, fishing and floating.
Missoula is also a great place to raise a family. Erin, who is raising her 12-year-old son here, appreciates the strong school system and the sense of safety. “It’s a great place to raise kids. There are sports programs, schools from kindergarten through college, and a close, safe environment where kids can ride bikes and walk to the park.”
