Making the most of your interview: Four Providence hiring managers share their tips

August 28, 2023

After the hard work of identifying a job and submitting your application, the invitation to interview should be a moment to celebrate, but it can also be a source of worry and stress. Anxiety about interviewing is not uncommon, but at our Providence family of organizations, we want you to feel relaxed, welcomed and at your best. We asked four managers for their tips on interviewing with us. Here’s what they had to say.

“Bring your authentic self.”

Danica, a clinical program senior manager, says: “Come prepared, be on time, bring your work history including specific scenarios, and bring your authentic self.” She also suggests taking a moment to think about each question prior to answering. “And lastly, have fun and bring questions for us.”

“Don’t be afraid to take your time and ask for clarification.”

Therese, a nursing manager, says the most important thing is to be yourself. “We highly value authenticity here, so just be you. Also, be honest and assertive. If you are confused by a question or unsure, just speak up. Don’t hesitate to let us know if you need us to repeat something and take your time. We are such a culture of safety and kindness. Don’t be afraid to take your time and ask for clarification. And remember to also ask us questions too. We love questions.”

“We truly want to get to know you.”

Rachel, an environmental services manager, says her advice is simple: “relax, be yourself, and just know it’s absolutely okay if you don’t have an answer. And it’s even more okay to ask a clarifying question, like, ‘Hey, could you maybe give me an example of what you’re looking for?’ So, then you can have that minute to adjust and think, ‘Ok, I know what I want to say now, or what I can share.’ And just be yourself because we truly want to get to know you.”

“Keep your contact info consistent.”

Nikki, an environmental services manager at Providence Alaska Medical Center, says that one way to ensure your success is to double check your contact info. “Make sure that the phone number and the email address that you used to apply for the job are still current. That will make the process go smoother and quicker. A lot of people tend to change emails and telephone numbers without updating their Applicant and Talent Network profiles, so it can be hard for us to get in touch with you to schedule an interview, or to reschedule if you need to.”
