Start your nursing career as a clinic LVN

June 5, 2024

Many nurses begin their careers as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in a clinic setting. Whether you’re interested in working as an LVN for the long haul—in a clinic, home health or hospital setting—or using it as a steppingstone to a higher-paying nursing role, here are some reasons to consider applying for a role as a clinic LVN at Covenant Health or any part of the Providence family of organizations.

You’ll have excellent work/life balance.

With more predictable hours and nearby neighborhood locations, a clinic can be a great place for an LVN to get started in nursing. Says LVN Supervisor Shelly, who works at a Covenant Health clinic in Lubbock, Texas, “I don’t want to commute 45 minutes to get to my workplace. I love that I live right around the corner, and it takes me five minutes to get to work in the morning.”

There are plenty of opportunities to grow quickly.

Shelly says that from the beginning, she’s had opportunities to grow in her career at Covenant. “I started out as a float in our building three years ago,” she says. “I moved into a direct role with a physician, just working in the office. And then from there I moved into a lead role that we had. Then I moved into a supervisory role. And this all happened within three years.”

Caregivers have access to:

  • Tuition reimbursement and a network of more than 220 schools offering discounted tuition rates for LVNs who might want to pursue their nursing or other degree.
  • Individual educational counseling to help caregivers achieve their goals.
  • A variety of online and in-person opportunities for caregivers and their dependents to receive an education conveniently and affordably through the University of Providence (UP).
  • Additional resources such virtual career coaching.

We support you with best-in-class benefits.

As part of the Providence family, Covenant Health caregivers receive a suite of benefits that supports them, mind, body, spirit and financially. Says Shelly, “We do have a lot of amazing benefits.” Beyond things like paid time away, medical and dental insurance, and retirement accounts, Shelly says, “there’s a really neat wellness program that you earn points for. You can get up to $1,400 for your family—free money that you can use towards any kind of medical expense.”

You’ll feel at home.

While some LVNs move from clinics to other care settings, Shelly is content where she is now. “My coworkers are amazing; I have an amazing team. I absolutely feel supported by our leadership. Covenant Health is a place I feel at home.”
